Swindon Borough Council managed more than a dozen Covid-19 outbreaks across the town last week.

A total of 25 incidents were reported to the local authority with 14 classed as an outbreak – where two or more cases have been confirmed.

That number is a drop on previous weeks, in line with a steady decrease in the Covid case rate. On Thursday that stood at 193.1 per 100,000 people, down from 217.8 the previous week.

At his weekly press briefing, director of public health Steve Maddern said: “We are continuing to decline, it’s probably slowing ever so slightly but it’s still a steady decrease so we’re happy.

“The case rate is still high so always with the caveat that people should not become complacent.

“We’ve seen decreases across all postcodes in Swindon except SN26, SN4 and SN6, but cases in those areas are still relatively low so there’s no more than 10.

“In the past week we’ve been managing 25 situations split across schools, businesses and health and social care settings.”
