THE town's community spirit will be showcased across 10 hours of radio coverage on Friday (February 26).

Swindon 105.5 will broadcast its Zurich Community Day from 9am-7pm and promises to explore how Covid-19 has impacted education, older people, disability, dementia, mental health, carers and the homelessness, as well as the benefits of singing and a look at the voluntary sector with Voluntary Action Swindon.

Station manager Shirley Ludford said: “Where would we be without our voluntary sector?

“Swindon has an incredible network of charitable organisations and volunteer-based groups who have continued to provide invaluable services to our town during the past year.

“As the town’s community radio station, we understand well the continuing and increased demands on services at the same time as increased funding pressures.

"Dedicating 10 hours to addressing issues, profiling key services and promoting the positives provides a real focus.

“Working alongside dedicated members of Zurich Community Trust is a real pleasure and it’s heartwarming to see the passion they have for supporting their local communities."

This fifth annual event includes guests from a wide range of organisations; trustees, members and service users as well as the town’s two MPs and grant-givers Wiltshire Community Foundation, Zurich Community Trust and the National Lottery.

Zurich Community Trust's Steve Grimmett said: “This day is definitely one of the highlights of the year for all of us.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to talk about such a wide range of issues as well as shining a light of the amazing work undertaken by so many local voluntary and community groups, schools and colleges in Swindon."
