KEY dates for the return of parkrun events in Swindon have been revealed.

The weekly junior run and adult 5k run will be back in April and June - having been suspended since the first national lockdown in March 2020.

The first junior parkrun, hosted at Lydiard Park, is lset take place on Sunday, April 11 with the first 5k adult run, at Lydiard and Seven Fields in Penhill, starting from June 5.

Both events posted on their respective social media pages saying: "The news we have been waiting for!

"These are the plans for restarting parkrun across the UK.

"We are obviously very excited by this annoucent, but obviously mindfull that these dates are EXPECTED dates and as such subject to all the regulations locally and nationally laid out in the Governments roadmap out of lockdown

"We will keep you updated with any further updates. In the mean time, stay safe, follow all social distancing guidelines, and hopefully we will see you soon."

On the parkrun website, the event organisers go into more details about what each return will look like.

For junior parkrun, only children aged between 4 and 10 will be able to take part instead of the usual 4 to 14 age range.

The site adds: "By temporarily limiting our age categories to 4-10-year-olds only, we would be reducing the number of registered and eligible parkrunners by around 50 per cent, bringing it back to a figure (around 300,000) similar to those previously registered to junior parkrun."

Because of social distancing restrictions, the organisers believe 5k events would not be able to run from April 4 so has taken the decision to return in June when more people would legally be allowed to return.
