This is the scene that confronted 999 workers after a crash that this week cost a lorry driver nine points on his licence.
James Foreman, 28, told Swindon magistrates diversions had left him “completely lost” as he drove his Scania lorry through Chiseldon last August. You can read more about the case here.

He turned onto the main Marlborough to Swindon road from Butts Road. He saw oncoming traffic but thought he had enough time to complete the manoeuvre.
As he straightened up, he applied his brakes – causing a Mercedes van behind him to crash into the trailer. A passenger in the van had to be cut free by firefighters.

This week, Foreman admitted careless driving. Swindon magistrates fined him £420 and imposed nine penalty points.
Wiltshire Police, which brought the prosecution, has now released images of the crash site. The pictures were shown to the magistrates.
