SWINDON volunteers delivered Easter goodies to cheer up vulnerable women in need.

Swindon Soroptimists members Jackie Webb and Lydia Cardew visited the Swindon Nelson Trust women's centre to drop off some sweet treats.

The centre provides holistic support for women who may be vulnerable because they have complex problems, and could be at risk of offending or re-offending.

The Soroptimists presented 25 individual Easter eggs for the centre's clients and bags of mini eggs for the hardworking staff.

The Swindon branch of the international voluntary women's organisation began this generous tradition in 2017

This year, they met centre staff in the facility's courtyard garden to safely donate the chocolate gifts.

Senior key worker Rae later wrote to thank the Soroptimists on behalf of the women and children who access the centre.

She said: “Another year has passed, and we have been chosen for a donation of Easter eggs from the lovely Soroptimist ladies.

£The women and children will be extremely grateful! A huge thank you for your continuous support and making lockdown that little bit easier."

The Soroptimists support the centre with practical donations of food, clothing, toiletries and kitchen items, as well as monetary donations - but as with their Christmas gift shoe boxes, they feel it is just as important to give extra festive treats as well.

Project coordinator Lydia Cardew said: “Lockdown has made life for these vulnerable women even more difficult than normal and we know they look forward to our gifts and it helps them enjoy the key social festivities that we all take for granted.

"This can be just as important as the advice and support the centre gives”.

The Nelson Trust Women’s Centre is a safe, women-only space where a wide range of problems related to offending, safety and well-being can be addressed in a supportive environment.

Women are offered one-to-one practical and emotional support and have access to a wide range of groups that address their needs

The Swindon Soroptimists are part of a global organisation dedicated to improving the lives and status of women and girls, locally, nationally and internationally, through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.
