REFURBISHMENTS at Westcott Recreation Ground in South Swindon are under way.
The revamp comes after the park was prioritised following an inspection that revealed health and safety concerns.
In total, £32,000 spent on the development, which includes a 10m slide, a basket swing, and zip wire.
Central South Swindon parish councillor John Firmin said: “It will be good as it brings it back into use for the older children. It will be safe and last a long time.
”
The equipment originally had wooden timber frames, which had rotted. The wood has been replaced with metal.
John added: “The key thing is we’re still catching up with a backlog of maintenance work where there are major developments. Parks are very busy the last few days and now we can have a mix of ages as this can be used for the older kids to enjoy as well.”
Vice-chair of central council Janine Howarth said: “It has been a long time coming as SBC hasn’t maintained it. We would pick up any problem sooner with regular inspections making sure it’s safe. It was getting towards an accident so could have been dangerous so it went up the list.”
