A PINEHURST man who paid £25 to get rid of household waste walked from court with a £500 bill after the load was flytipped in Shrivenham.

The waste, which included an old sofa, toys and garden waste, was dumped in Station Road and reported to the local council on June 12 last year.

The Vale of White Horse District Council said the flytipped rubbish was traced to a Swindon man. He told council staff that 28-year-old Joshua Salter had removed the waste in return for a scrap BMW.

Some of the waste was taken to the tip, Salter said, although some was stored at his Swindon home. He paid £25 to get rid of the rest of the rubbish.

Salter, of Linden Avenue, Pinehurst, pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates' Court earlier this month to transporting waste without being a registered waste carrier, not making proper checks on those to whom he passed waste and not obtaining a transfer note for the disposal of the waste.

The council said Salter was fined £150, and ordered to pay £269.60 compensation and £134 in costs and surcharge.
