CARELESS fly-tippers have left parts of Swindon a mess by dumping their rubbish instead of taking it to the household waste recycling centre.

The Adver has covered several stories on the issue in the last year. Here's a quick look back...

Earlier this week, we reported on furious neighbours blasting those responsible for mess around Broad Green and Manchester Road.

In December, a driver was caught fly-tipping at a ‘favourite spot’ along a road in Shrivenham before trying to intimidate an onlooker.

A woman who wished to remain anonymous spotted the person dumping a wooden door in some bushes along Stainswick Lane while she was jogging.

Statistics released in May 2020 and March 2021 revealed that flytipping had increased around Swindon during lockdown.

The council received 185 reports of fly-tipping for the three-week period after the recycling centre was closed during the first lockdown - an increase of 34 per cent on the previous three weeks.

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs data shows people reported 1,504 flytipping incidents to Swindon Borough Council in 2019/20, which is 69 more than the previous year.

The council took action over 713 flytipping offences, which included carrying out 522 investigations, writing 171 warning letters and issuing 17 fixed penalty notices.

Priors Hill in Wroughton had an unsightly addition when one fly-tipper could not be bothered to dispose of their rubbish properly.
