NO SHOWS prompted a Swindon pub to abandon table bookings this year.
Jane Tilsley of The Runner, Wootton Bassett Road, said the pub had a booking process for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme last summer.
“Every single day there was a no show,” she told BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning.
“This time I just thought I want to give everybody a chance to come, so we don’t do bookings.
“I cannot lie, the pub has been flying. From 12 o’clock on Sundays every single table is sat on, then you get your turnaround again.
“I think it’s working for us having no bookings at all.”
Elsewhere around the country, landlords have complained of people booking tables then failing to show up.
The Daily Echo reported that at one pub in Fordinbridge last month, a quarter of customers who had booked a table failed to turn up one Saturday – costing the business an estimated £1,000.
