THE number of new coronavirus cases recorded in Swindon in the last seven days is more than the week before.

The latest figures show that 12 more positive test results were recorded around the borough within 24 hours and a total of 68 were confirmed within the last week.

This is 16 Covid-19 cases more than the week before - a rise of 30.8 per cent.

Swindon's infection rate continues to creep up. As of June 8, it was at 26.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The government said a further eight people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 127,904.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 153,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The government added that, as of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 7,490 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.
