POLICE officers responded to reports of an assault in a Swindon pub as revellers watched the England match.

No arrests were made at the Old Town tavern and an investigation is being held into alleged Actual Bodily Harm.

Apart from that, football fans behaved themselves and following both the law and any coronavirus safety guidelines put in place as they celebrated England's win against Croatia on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon.

Acting Chief Inspector Barry Reed said: “There was only one incident of assault in a licensed premises during or after Sunday's match.

"It was a great day for England fans to come together and watch their team start the tournament off in the right way.

"They played their part in making sure it was an enjoyable game for everyone.

"We’re looking forward to seeing that spirit again when England play Scotland on Friday night.”

Kick-off for the next England game is at 8pm.
