MORE improvements have been made to the Shaftesbury Lake wildlife area.

South Swindon Parish Council has placed a new wildlife ladder on the waterfall end of the lake.

Every year, ducklings, goslings and cygnets fall off the weir and into the water below and have been unable to get out unaided because of steep concrete banks.

Parish council chair Chris Watts said: “We are delighted to have made further improvements to Shaftesbury Lake. This work follows the new path, dipping platforms and bins we have added to the area.

“We are also working with the Friends of Shaftesbury Lake group to create a wildflower meadow on the Park South side of Shaftesbury Lake, although that has been challenging with the birds grazing the grass. A big thank you to Pam and Gail from the group for their perseverance in making the lake a fantastic wildlife space in Swindon.”

A new noticeboard was made by the parish council and installed on the Park South side of Shaftesbury Lake in April.

It will be used to provide people with information about the lake, including voluntary activities. Contact comms@southswindon-pc.gov.uk or call 01793 312006 to have a notice included.
