MORE than 100 new graffiti tags defaced buildings in a vandalism spree around the town centre over the weekend.

Swindon Borough Council is working with Wiltshire Police to find the people responsible for the graffiti which appeared from Carfax Street to Farnsby Street.

A council spokesman said: This time, we're 100 per cent sure it wasn't Banksy.

"To make matters worse, an unsightly scrawl was spray painted on to a site in Regent Street which we were hoping to use for a mural.

"We have already begun to paint another mural round the corner off Princes Street.

"We're already checking CCTV but please contact Wiltshire Police if you have any information which could help to identify the perpetrators involved so we can put a stop to this unacceptable anti-social behaviour."

Shortly after the council's appeal, police released a photo of two people they would like to speak to in connection with the graffiti.

PC Scherene Clarke from Swindon Community Policing Team said: “We believe all these incidents are linked and we have been carrying out detailed enquiries, including viewing CCTV footage and liaising with Swindon Borough Council.

“We now have an image of two people who we need to speak to as part of our investigation.

“If you recognise these people or if you saw anything on Sunday between 8pm and 9pm in the town, please call me on 101 or email me on Scherene.Clarke@wiltshire.police.uk.”
