MORE recycling spots will be opened up at Swindon's tip after household collections were temporarily cut by the council.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Waterside Park in Cheney Manor will be open until 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The move by cabinet member in charge of waste services Kevin Parry will open up an extra 500 booking slots per week for householders in the borough to choose from.

Residents will be able to book the new evening slots from Saturday, July 23.

Swindon Borough Council announced on Monday reductions to services were due to a mixture of staff self-isolating because of Covid-19 and a national HGV driver shortage.

The new schedule for recycling box collections will change from fortnightly to four-weekly with immedate effect.

This has understandably been met with anger and frustration from residents who are left wondering what to do with the inevitable build-up of their recycling.

Now they have the added option of taking it to the recycling centre in the evening.

This news comes after Swindon Borough Council announced that it would be keeping the booking system for the recycling centre, after Wiltshire Council revealed theirs woud be scrapped
