Tadpole Garden Village: Arkell's Brewery has started building a new pub and microbrewery in Green Street in the expanding housing development.

But it has applied to change its plans, which no longer show the previously-approved Apple Barn and cider barn.

The company says the change is needed owing to the costs of the development.

Haydon End: The builders of Orchid Vale Primary School in Torun Way want to fix the roof of the entire building.

Built in 2013 the school’s roof has failed and original contractor Laing O’Rourke, based in Manchester, wants to use the summer holidays to re-cover the building, raising the parapet at the roofline to give extra protection.

Town centre: A proposal by a Mr Yaseen to increase the height of the outbuilding behind the house at 100 Commercial Street and convert it into two flats has been refused.

Swindon Borough Council planners said: “The proposed development would provide a poor standard of living for future occupants of both flats due to internal space which falls significantly below the minimum standards. The ground-floor flat is single aspect and would receive poor levels of natural light and would experience an extremely poor outlook."

Extensions: Applications have been lodged to build extensions to houses or to build or convert outhouses and lofts at 147 Okus Road, Old Town; 5 Parsloes Close, Wroughton; 172 Beechcroft Road, Upper Stratton; 8 Hysopp Close, Woodhall Park; 12 Sambre Road, Chiseldon; 42 Wildern Square, Stratton St Margaret; 77 Britten Road, Redhouse, 6 Belmont Crescent, Old Town and 1 Kerry Close, Ramleaze.

Such application have been approved for: 13 Beranburh Field, Wroughton; 93 Swindon Road, Stratton St Margaret; 40 Church Walk South , Rodbourne; 64 Headlands Grove, Stratton St Margaret; 61 Yiewsley Crescent, Stratton St Margaret; 15 Windsor Road, Lawn; 33 Mulcaster Avenue, Grange Park; 43 Derwent Drive, Stratton St Margaret; 10 Comfrey Close Woodhall Park; 1 Blackstone Avenue, Eldene, 11 Capitol Close, Stratton St Margaret; 4 Brandean Close, Abbey Meads; 9 Yarnton Close, Nine Elms; 72 Truscott Avenue, Redhouse, 7 Bittern Road Covingham; and 1 Pheasant Close, Covingham.

The application to extend 2 Roberts Close in Wroughton has been withdrawn.

Wroughton: A proposal by Mrs C Mills to add an extension on the already-extended 5 Perrys Lane in Wroughton has been refused a certificate of lawfulness.

Planners at the borough council said: “The proposed extension is considered to be a side extension that extends beyond a rear wall and restrictions on extensions beyond rear walls and side walls will both apply. The proposed extension would therefore have a total width of more than half the width of the house measured at its widest point and would exceed 4m in depth beyond the rear plane.”

The decision does not prevent Mrs Mills applying for full planning permission for the new extension.

Old Walcot: A plan put forward by Jonathan Neilan to build a two-storey extensions to 62 Upham Road has also been refused.

The plan for add a kitchen to the ground floor and extend two bedrooms and add an en-suite bathroom was turned down because 'the design would result in a significant visual imbalance with the adjoining property to the detriment of the character and appearance of the street scene'.
