Swindon Town has confirmed it is assessing its involvement with plans to build houses and a new training facility on Twelve Oaks Golf Course near Highworth.

The club was granted permission for a new 22-hectare training complex on part of the course, and was given consent to build 18 luxury houses on another part.

These applications were made by the club when it was owned by Lee Power, who was also given permission to build a racehorse training facility.

Now under the ownership of Australian millionaire Clem Morfuni, the club has confirmed it doesn’t own the sites and is looking at how to proceed.

New chief executive Rob Angus said: “Clem Morfuni has no association with the training facility at Twelve Oaks

“We know that the ownership of the land at Twelve Oaks is subject to the proceedings in Standing v Power which continue.

“We are currently assessing STFC’s involvement in Twelve Oaks.”

Despite having relinquished ownership of Town, Mr Power is still involved in a court case against football agent Michael Standing over who owned shares in the club when he was owner.

Mr Standing said he was involved in a 50-50 deal with Mr Power which was not disclosed at the time the latter took over the club in 2013.

That matter will come to court later this year or in 2022.

At the time of the application for permission to build the training facility, the club said it would save the £700,000 it paid every year to rent other facilities and would also help attract talented youngsters to the club.
