PARISH councillors in South Swindon received a plaque to commemorate a £10,000 contribution to the Town Gardens gates refurbishments.

The project cost £70,000 overall but was helped by funding from the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), which is administered for the Hills Group by Community First.

The plaque was handed to parish chair Chris Watts and councillor Nadine Watts by Community First's Mary Hadwidge.

Chris said: “I was delighted to receive this plaque from Mary of Community First which very much helped to get the Town Gardens historic gates refurbished.

"The gates are 115 years old and this was the first time they had been refurbished through the traditional blacksmith method in their history.

"We are delighted to restore this piece of Swindon’s history and hope they will last for another 115 years.”
