THERE are long delays on the M4 not far from Swindon, Highways England has warned.

The motorway is shut all weekend in both directions between junctions 13 and 14 for Newbury and Hungerford respectively.

A diversion is in place along the A4.

The planned weekend closure - in force until 6am on Monday (August 2) - is for the removal of existing bridge beams, with a large crane in use which spans both carriageways.

Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol:

- Leave the M4 at J14, follow the A338 to the A4 roundabout.

- Turn left and follow the A4 to the roundabout with the A34.

- Take the 2nd exit and follow the A34 to rejoin the M4 at J13.

- Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol:

Leave the M4 at J13, follow the A34 southbound.

Exit the A34 at the roundabout with the A4.

Turn right and travel on the A4 towards Hungerford.

At the A338 roundabout, turn right and follow the A338 to rejoin the M4 at J14.

Highways England said: "There are delays of nearly 90 minutes on approach to the closure eastbound and 60 minutes westbound. These delays also encompass the diversion route."
