Football and family time were the focus over the weekend for Swindon’s minority communities

Coun. Bazil Solomon, Coun. Lourneco Fernandes and Coun. Oladapo Ibitoye organised an event to foster community spirit in Swindon

It that took place on Saturday 31st July at Mannington Recreation Ground.

On one half there was a 7-a-side football tournament for British Goans, and on the other half there was a BBQ and activities for East Africans.

Bazil Solomon said: “The main thing is to keep engaging with communities to help the balance between the minority and the majority. It’s crucial to the growth of the Town, developing that community spirit to keep good neighbours!”

“Football is great because people get excited about participating with other people and being able to challenge their skill-sets. But more importantly, In football you don’t see the people you’re playing against as anything other than a football player.”

The response to the event was positive as Mr. Solomon described members of the public walking through the area and joining in. He also said that he is planning more events in the future because it's a cause that's close to him

" It is vital for Swindon UK localism goals to work collaboratively to ensure pride, placemaking and perseverance in building a greater future for all.
