The meeting of Swindon Borough Council's planning committee, scheduled for 6pm this evening on Tuesday August 10 has been cancelled owing to a lack of applications needing discussion and decision by elected councillors instead of planning officers.

The next scheduled meeting of the committee will be Tuesday September 14.

There are only two other meetings on the council's diary for August.

On Wednesday August 18 the licensing panel will meet at 2pm to discuss and decide on an application by South Swindon Parish Council for a premises licence for Old Town Gardens in Quarry Road.

The lower-tier council wants a licence to put on entertainments such as plays and films, live music, dance displays and recorded music and also wants to be able to sell alcohol to those attending such entertainments.

The licence for both the events and the sale of alcohol would be from 10am to 10.30pm during the week, with a later 11pm end for three weekend days.

The panel is to consider the application because it has received letters form seven neighbours of the venue.

They are concerned about noise and litter, and one says licensed events now close at 10.30pm but people often don't leave until well after 11pm and a later licence will make the delay in clearing the gardens even more of a nuisance to people living nearby.

The last meeting for August will be that of the education transport appleas sub-committee on August 23.
