A CAFE set up for people with dementia, their carers and family members starts again today after a year of closure.

The Pinetrees dementia cafe – hosted at Pinetrees Community Centre in The Circle in Pinehurst – has only been put on once since the first lockdown in March 2020.

That was in September but organisers are hoping it will be back for good this time and will see old customers and new returning.

As well as allowing people with dementia to meet and chat with friends, and giving carers and family members the ability to talk to others in the same situation and get advice on resources from staff, the cafe puts on activities such as gentle bingo, movement to music and mobility exercise sessions.

It also has a specially designed piece of equipment called a magic table. Images can be projected and the table responds to touch, allowing people to move them and even explode pictures of stars.

The cafe is open from 1.30-3.30pm today and then every other Wednesday. Call 01793 466499 to book.
