New cycle parking is being installed around the town after Swindon Borough Council asked for feedback

A total of 46 locations were then been picked, with the council saying all of them will be in place by the end of the year. Some have already been installed.

It comes after a £25,500 allocation from the Active Travel Fund, which aims to increase facilities for green travel around Swindon.

A total of 15 schools in the borough are have also received scooter and bike parking after they received £21,000 from the Healthy Pupils Capital Investment Funding, which comes from the tax on sugary snacks and drinks. These are already in place for use in the new school term.

Councillor Kevin Parry, the cabinet member for service delivery, waste and transport, said: “Encouraging residents to swap their cars for alternative active modes of transport, like cycling, is not only a way to reduce congestion on our roads, but is also a way to reduce our carbon footprint and save money.”
