South Swindon MP Robert Buckland has been fired by prime minister Boris Johnson from his cabinet job as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.

Confirming TV reports that he had been moved on, Mr Buckland who became  the justice secratry in 2019 tweeted: "It has been an honour to serve in government for the last sev years, and as the Lord Chancellor for the last two. I am deeply proud of everything I have achieved. On to the next adventure."

The education secretary Gavin Williamson was the first cabinet minister to lose his job in the changes .

It has been reported that Mr Buckland has been moved from Justice to allow the foreign secretary Dominic Raab, who has faced significant criticism to be moved from that office but kept in the cabinet as Justice Secretary.
