Hinton Parva: Having been given permission to convert a holiday-let chalet in Church Row into a permanent dwelling, Randal Pakeman has now applied to knock down the single-storey Swiss-style building and build a new house.

His application said the building would be identical in siting, and appearance to the existing building for which permission was given both for holiday lets and for permanent residence.

Bishopstone Parish Council and neighbours were against the plan for the chalet to be allowed to be used as a home. A neighbour said at the time vehicle access is on his land and the only public access to the chalet site being along the public footpath of Church Walk.

Town centre: Offices just off Commercial Road can be turned into flats. Developer Peter Opperman of WBM Commercial Property has been granted permission to turn the ground and first and second floors of 5 Temple Chambers into six flats. The block is an irregularly-shaped building where Temple Street becomes a pedestrian walkway to Regent Street.

Four of the six flats, two on the ground floor and one each on the two upper floors will have one bed. One flat on the upper floors will have two bedrooms.

Highworth: Birds and bats may be treated as well as top-flight race horses at the new training facilities being constructed on part of the Twelve Oaks golf course.

Former Swindon Town owner Lee Power is constructing a horse training complex there and as part of his permission, he must put in an ecology management plan.

This has been submitted and says while some trees will be removed, others will be planted to create small areas of woodland and screening round the facility. There will 11 bird nesting boxes and four bat roosting boxes put up in the trees.

The proposed landscape plan will deliver new small woodland areas, providing screening and noise buffer requirements set out in the conditions.

Extensions: Applications have been lodged to build extensions to houses, or outbuildings or to convert outbuildings and lofts into habitable rooms at 7 Carroll Close, Liden; 125 Bath Road, Old Town; Elm Croft, Medbourne Lane, Liddington; 62 Westlecot Road, Old Town and 53 Bath Road in Old Town.

Martin Payne, who lives at 111 Ashbury Avenue will be hoping planners look kindly on his application for permission to build a garage at his home. Because he has already built it and has now asked for retrospective permission. If permission is refused, he could be instructed to demolish the garage.

Applications for extensions and conversions have been approved for 1 Robinsgreen, Covingham; 26 Thurlestone Road, Old Walcot; 3 Poveys Place, Bishopstone; 1 Lidenbrook, Liddington; 4 Bayfield Close, Sparcells; 12 Sambre Road, Chiseldon; 15 Churchway Blunsdon; 11 The Ridge, Blunsdon; 21 Lancaster Road, Wroughton; 2 Churchway, Blunsdon; 34 Eastrop, Highworth; 25 Trenchard Road, Stanton Fitzwarren; 15 Wharf Road, Wroughton; 10 Sigerson Road, Taw Hill, 53 Collett Avenue, Rodbourne Cheney; 32 Wills Avenue, Marshgate.

Two applications for extensions have been refused.

Moredon: Raj Khanna’s plan to build a single-storey wrap-around side extension to the bungalow at 2 Windrush Road, creating a four-bed home from a two-bed home and increasing the living space has been rejected.

The plan was opposed by the local borough councillor and Central Swindon North Parish Council, which said the plan was over-development of the site.

Euclid Street planners agreed. The decision said: “The proposed extension reflects poor design which fails to consider the character of the area.”

Broome Manor: The applicant whose plan to put a rear and side extension to 8 Leamington Grove was turned down has launched an appeal. T Corcoran wants to attach a single-storey rear additions and a two-storey side extension to the semi-detached home. But planners turned down the plans. The matter will be decided by a planning inspector.
