PRIMARY school pupils will have the chance to win a Fire 7 Tablet if they take a tour of Lawn Manor Academy today.

The school is opening its doors from 6pm to 8pm for Years 5 and 6 pupils and families who are deciding which secondary schools they would prefer to join in September 2022 or 2023.

The visitors will be able to tour the school and take part in a range of activities in different departments, like trying their hands at musical instruments, taking part in some science experiments and challenging themselves and others in a maths Countdown quiz.

They will learn what it it means for Lawn Manor Academy to be an established Forest School – with a dedicated outdoor learning area and small-scale eco-system.

But as they travel around the school, they should also be on the lookout for quiz clues on displays and within demonstrations. The names of the pupils who get all the answers right will go into a draw, and one winner will receive the Fire 7 Tablet.

Deputy headteacher Russell Langdown said: “Stepping up to senior school can feel daunting to some pupils, while others can’t wait to start a new school,” said Mr Langdown.

“But in our experience, if Years 5s and 6s have the chance to see around the school they may be joining and take part in whichever activities they are interested in, it’s a great ice-breaker. They have great fun on the evening, but importantly also feel much more confident about coming here to start Year 7.”

There is no need to book for the open evening, which starts at 6pm and ends at 8pm – pupils can simply turn up with their parents or carers. Headteacher Sandra Muir will give a presentation at 6pm in the school’s West Manor Hall.

For those unable to make Thursday evening, the school is offering tours by a member of the senior leadership team on Saturday October 2 between 10am and noon. These tours need to be pre-booked. To book, contact the headteacher’s PA on 01793 427732 or admin@lawnmanor.org .
