THE latest coronavirus case map shows huge spikes in Royal Wootton Bassett while other areas report single-digit increases.

The government's visual representation of how much infection rates and new coronavirus cases have changed in parts of the Swindon borough and towns on its outskirts shows that much of the area still has a high density of cases.

However, Haydon Wick had just six new coronavirus cases recorded in the seven days up to September 20, while Cricklade and Ashton Keynes had just eight new positive test results.

On the other end of the scale, Outer Royal Wootton Bassett and Lyneham saw 50 new Covid-19 cases recorded during the same period (up by 354.3 per cent) and Royal Wootton Bassett Town saw 30 new cases - a rise of 400 per cent.

Central South and Eastcott had a 450 per cent increase in new cases, recording 33 in those seven days.

The Parks had half the number of new cases recorded (10) compared to the previous week, and Freshbrook North and Grange Park saw a 10 per cent drop in their new cases.

Swindon overall saw 679 new cases recorded in the seven days before September 20, which was 245 (565 per cent) more than the previous week.
