A NEW entertainment venue in Swindon’s town centre opens later this month with a circus-themed extravaganza.

The finishing touches are being made on the Boom Battle Bar in Regent Circus ready for its first event on October 16.

The grand opening will feature a ringmaster introducing a range of spectacular acts, including a contortionist, hula hoop artists, ribbon dancing, singers, a fire show, and an LED show.

Doors open for The Greatest Show Ever at 6pm and it ends at 11pm.

An Oktoberfest-themed event will follow on October 22 from 7pm and transform the venue into a German beer hall, with a sausage-eating contest and a live Oompah band.

The Battle Bar now fills four units of the complex next to new Korean restaurant Funky Grilla, taking up space which was mostly vacant and includes the former home of Coal Kitchen.

The leisure destination is opposite Lamaya Lebanese Kitchen and the Cineworld cinema.

It will offer an unusual array of activities for visitors, including axe-throwing, ‘crazier’ golf, virtual-reality booths and augmented-reality darts along with a pool table, karaoke and table tennis.

In-between games, visitors can relax and refuel by trying street food, cocktails and craft beer.

The 15,000 sq ft space represents a £1.5 million investment from the franchise owners and will bring a total of 50 new and part-time jobs to the area.

News of the new venue being in the pipeline first broke in March when AGD Nine filed a licensing application asking for permission to sell alcohol and play music.

Work began in July after this was approved.

The adventure bar has existing branches in Cardiff and Norwich with plans to open in Oxford, Liverpool, Eastbourne, Leeds and Manchester.
