There are enough drivers employed by Swindon Borough Council to drive gritting lorries over the winter and keep the borough's roads safer.
Reports in a number of newspapers and websites suggest some councils across the country bare concerned they might not have enough such drivers for the job- amid an ongoing driver shortage which has had effects on good in shops and the recent panic-buying of petrol because trouble getting supplies to filling stations.
The leader of Swindon Borough Council, David Renard speaking as the transport spokesperson for the Local Government Association, said: ‘While most councils have been able to keep services running, some may find that their gritting services are affected in the same way that some have seen waste collection services impacted."
A lack of drivers earlier in the year saw bin collections suspended in Swindon but the council says now it has enough qulaified drivers.
