A STRAY dog found wandering in Pinehurst with a bleeding and damaged tail could be rehomed if his owner is not found.

Tyler was handed in to Swindon Borough Council and the animal warden took him to the vets for treatment.

The end of Tyler's tail was missing and the bone was exposed, causing him terrible pain and he kept biting at his injured tail.

He was microchipped but the contact details were out of date and the locaL authority has so far not been able to trace the owner.

It is possible he may have been abandoned, potentially due to the medical cost of treatment as this injury was not a completely fresh wound.

A council spokesman said: "Tyler has been treated and is now feeling much happier.

"We have a rescue space lined up for him where he can be rehomed with full support if the owner cannot be found, but we are keen to find out where he came from and how his tail came to be damaged like this.

"If you think you know who Tyler’s owner is please email us at: dogwarden@swindon.gov.uk

"We’d also like to remind people of the importance of ensuring they have insurance wherever possible to cover unexpected vet bills.

"The PDSA can provide assistance with treatment for those pet owners who are struggling financially (www.pdsa.org.uk), while other charities such as the RSPCA can also provide help.
