Families and staff at Windmill Hill Day Nursery joined together to take part in a unique and arduous event – a mile-long ‘welly waddle’.
The event was organised by charity tepresentative Emily Riordan to raise money for Cancer Research UK and also involved a nature scavenger hunt in the great outdoors.
The group of intrepid ‘welly waddlers’ took on the mile-long course from the setting on Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, collecting sponsorship from generous supporters before enjoying an autumn hamper raffle, filled with seasonal treats including a throw and Costa voucher.
They raised a grand total of £855 for the cancer charity thanls to their efforts
Emily explained; “We had a fantastic turnout to the Welly Waddle and this proved to be a brilliant social opportunity for both adults and children.
“Not only did we have a fantastic time raising money for charity, but getting closer to the natural world around us.
"At the end we enjoyed some well-deserved refreshments and the children received a certificate for their incredible participation skills and effort in helping others.”
The initiative is the most recent fundraising activity for Windmill Hill, which has also enjoyed dress-up days, colleague head shaving, virtual balloon races and more in its efforts to raise money for CRUK.
