The pub formerly known as The Bayberry has announced it will be refurbished and return with a new name.
Yesterday it was granted name change approval and will be known as The Wichel in future.
The pub, originally opened by Marston's back in 2012, will be undergoing a "transformative refurbishment" and will be officially reopening in mid-November under the new name.
Taking inspiration from its location, the new name is a nod to its medieval history with Wichel being the earliest recorded name of the area dating back to 1086.
Senior marketing manager for Marston’s Becky Boyes added: “The Wichel name marks a new chapter for the local pub.
“Pubs are an integral part of the community, even more so now after Covid-19 and with this in mind, we wanted to do right by The Wichel and give it the extensive refurbishment it deserves.
“We are excited to take the pub to another level with the support of our pub team.”
