A Swindon street is the most expensive in Wiltshire, according to research by Zoopla.

Zoopla has revealed the top ten priciest streets in Wiltshire based on average house price and Burytown Lane in Blunsdon has bagged the top spot with properties on average costing £1,618,694.

Another Swindon postcode comes in at number nine. The average price for properties in Havelock Street in SN1 is around £1.3m.

There are only about a dozen properties on the tree-lined Burytown Lane and the houses are spaced apart.

Blunsdon’s Grade II listed church St Leonard’s is at the entrance to the lane and homeowners can also enjoy long walks in the countryside close by.

Just a short walk away, an Iron Age fort provides beautiful views of the landscape. The hill fort on Castle Hill dates to between 800BC to 500BC, according to Historic England.

The Adver asked residents what they most enjoyed about it. Parish councillor Sandra Keates has lived there for 15 years. She said: “I distinctly remember moving here and it was a really hot June and July and it felt like I was on holiday.

“It’s part of village that, at the moment, is unspoilt. It’s remote and there are very few houses.

“It’s in the conservation part of Blunsdon so they can’t do too much building around here. It’s a nice community, you can get involved if you want to. There’s a gardening club and functions in the town hall.

“What’s great about this location is that it’s in the countryside but in the close vicinity of a town. There are a lot of great walks around here and it’s not far from Cirencester. There’s easy access to A419 if you have a car.”

One resident who has lived on the lane for 21 years said: “I wanted to be near the countryside and near a school. All the the houses are spaced apart and I love that’s its so remote and doesn’t have lots of houses crammed together.

“We’re surrounded by wildlife and that’s priceless. I will stay here for the foreseeable future as long as they don’t build.

“It’s the starting point for a lot of walks like to Hannington and Castle Eaton so I go walking quite regularly.”

Daniel Copley, consumer spokesman for Zoopla said: “It’s easy to see why Burytown Lane is the most expensive street in Wiltshire.

“Properties on this tree-lined street enjoy scenic countryside views and large gardens.

“It also occupies an enviable location between the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, both of which are only a short drive away.”

Coun Keates said: “Blunsdon has such a variety of homes. It has bungalows but it also has houses that cost well over a million pounds.

“There are such a good selection of places you can look at that would suit anybody. from the younger to the older generation.”

Zoopla’s research showed that Haugh in Bradford-on-Avon missed out on the top spot by around £150,000 and Cardigan Road in Marlborough came in at third with an average house price of £1,461,513.
