One Blunsdon neighbourhood is getting into the Halloween spirit this year by decorating front gardens as part of its second annual Scarecrow Trail.

St Andrews Ridge residents have been creative with their scarecrows and families who follow the trail can see spooky figures like Pennywise from Stephen King's It and Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

One house with Ghostbuster scarecrows even has the theme tune playing on loop.

Families can search for the 39 scarecrows dotted round the area using a map and vote for their three favourites until October 31.

The three houses with the most votes will be awarded trophies next week.

Damian Pickett, who works for an entertainment company, first organised the Spooky Scarecrow Trail last year.

He said: "People can have scary scarecrows or fun scarecrows. We didn't give a theme because then families get creative.

"It's usually the kids who choose the theme so we've had Spiderman and Star Wars.

"It started off last year because of lockdown but people just went mental with it.

"People properly go for it and go full out with the decorations.

"I didn't know if it would work this year because more people are back at work and last year was so successful because of the lockdown spirit of 'God, I need to do something I'm not at work'.

"But people wanted to do another scarecrow and we have managed 39 scarecrows this year."

Damian initially organised the trail because he was missing his work with events.

He added: "I hadn't worked because of coronavirus and my last job was February 2020. There was nothing for those months and I thought 'I'm going to go mental if I don't have anything to organise'.

"But now I love to see people walking around and enjoying it.

"When I see how smiley everyone is, it feels so good. I just want to make people happy.

"I do my job because I love seeing people happy and laughing."

The scarecrow trail is not the only free Halloween event Damian has organised for his community.

On Sunday, he will hide 100 pumpkins for children to find. If they find a pumpkin, they will bring it to his house or 'Halloween HQ' and get a goody bag. Damian has already started decorating his house with singing pumpkins and fake tombstones.

Damian has also set up a pumpkin carving competition and the three winners of that will also receive awards.
