THE Oasis may never reopen as a leisure centre after the decision was taken to list its dome.
That was the warning from landlords Seven Capital after Historic England announced the structure that covers the North Star facility's iconic pool would be protected under a Grade II listing.

Seven Capital this month released plans to rebuild and reopen the site, which has been closed for a year. But its vision did not include the dome and now doubt has been cast over the leisure centre's future.
SevenCapital managing director Angus Michie said: “The decision to list the dome of the Oasis is disappointing.
"The dome is the key structural element that led to the closure of the Oasis in 2020 and as we have warned several times previously, the preservation of it means that it is now highly questionable whether the Oasis will ever reopen as a leisure centre again.”
