THE new Smyths Toys store at Greenbridge Retail Park will not open until the new year.
The chain is moving into the old Mothercare unit, with contractor HGL Commercial Construction starting work on the unit in September.
Its plans were given the green light by Swindon Borough Council in October 2019.
As the festive season drew closer excited families were starting to wonder if the store would be open in time for Christmas present buying but Greenbridge management company M&G revealed it will be 2022 before the doors are open.
A spokesperson from the company said: “M&G is carrying out works of repair and improvement to the unit and Smyths Toys will be taking occupation and fitting out early in the new year.”
The company that was carrying out the repair and improvement work, as per signage at the site, recently went into administration.
Harty Global Limited was a Bristol-based company that was responsible for building and fitting out a number of stores across the South West, but an an administrator was appointed to the company on October 19.
The Adver's calls to the company’s head office went straight to the answering machine.
