Police are appealing for witnesses after an arsonist attempted to put a burning piece of cardboard through a letterbox in Toothill.
The unknown suspect tried to shove it through the front door of a Longthorpe Close house at around 7pm on November 21.
The victim noticed an acrid smell coming from downstairs and saw smoking coming from the letterbox.
The cardboard had not made its way into the house but it could have been a lot more serious had it done so.
The victim did not see anyone but heard male voices shouting from the direction of Mayenden Park.
A wheelie bin was set alight at around 7.30pm near the house which police believe to be a related incident.
Anyone who was near Mayenden Park at around 7pm on November 21, has any information that could assist officers or has any CCTV from this area should call 101 and quote the crime reference 54210113672.
