South Swindon MP Robert Buckland has been honoured by the Queen with a knighthood.

He received a new title as part of the New Year's Honours list, and is now a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

A Downing Street spokesman said: "The Queen has been graciously pleased to signify Her intention of conferring the following Honours upon the undermentioned:

"The Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC MP; Member of Parliament for South Swindon, formerly Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. For public and political service."

Toby Elliott said on Twitter: "Congratulations to South Swindon Member of Parliament Robert Buckland on your KBE.

"Sir Robert thoroughly deserves his UK national honour for his steadfast commitment to the constituency, town and country.

"Makes me a very proud constituency chairman and a great end to 2021."

Sir Robert replied: "Thank you Toby and to Swindon Conservatives for all the support from our dedicated local team."
