Scammers have been targeting potential customers of a new South American restaurant in Greenbridge by falsely telling them they have "won" the launch night competition.

Fiesta de Cuba, which opens on February 14, says the winner will be announced on Monday on its original Facebook post which outlines the details of the competition.

A scam account has reportedly sent messages to people about the competition along with a link, which the restaurant's managers have urged people not to click.

The VIP launch night takes place on Tuesday, two days before the official opening, and the winner will receive a table for two for the night, food to the value of £30 and a rum punch bowl to share.

The new restaurant promises tapas and main plates prepared by a chef who has South American influence, and a great array of cocktails, as well as a traditional South American rum bar.

The restaurant's management said: "Thank you for making us aware. This account is not linked to us and any competition winners will only ever be notified by us.

"If you are able to report the account, we'd really appreciate it.

"In the mean time, don't click the link in their message. Hopefully we will have this resolved shortly."
