South Swindon's MP has said that the Post Office and Asda are "happy" for the old West Swindon site to be used as a temporary Post Office until a permanent solution is found.
Robert Buckland claims the Post Office confirmed this in a meeting. His next step will be pushing the company to secure the temporary postmaster and facilities.
The popular branch in West Swindon Shopping Centre closed on January 4 after the previous retail partner for the branch Martin McColl Ltd resigned.
Residents labelled the closure a "disaster" and said it would have a big impact on the comunity, especially the older members.
Sir Robert released a video and said:"A lot of residents are very concerned to have seen the closure of the Post Office last week.
"Just before Christmas, I had another meeting with the Post Office to ask them about the possibility of a temporary postmaster and a Post Office at the site.
"They've confirmed and Asda have confirmed that they would be happy for the site to be used for a temporary Post Office so I will continue to push the Post Office to secure those temporary facilities and indeed then to secure a permanent solution to make sure that residents are well-served in the West Swindon centre by a continuing Post Office Service."
A Post Office spokesman said:
“I can confirm that we are trying to get Post Office services at West Swindon re-opened at the same location with a temporary Postmaster. This would restore service to the community."
Asda was approached for comment.
