MORE than 2,700 people have responded to a consultation on the future of transport in Bradford on Avon.

The consultation was organised by Bradford on Avon Town Council, which was delighted with the response.

Ian Brown, the council's director of operations, said: “We have received a very good response to the consultation with circa 2,100 questionnaire responses, circa 650 interactive map responses and circa 650 people dropping in.

"With the consultation only closing on Sunday night (January 9) we have yet to have a final tally. The consultants are currently bringing this all together, we hope to have that early next week.”

The council says the recent social distancing scheme clearly demonstrated that the town needs a comprehensive solution to the transport challenges it faces.

These include the ongoing issues of traffic volume, speeding within the 20mph zone, pollution and pedestrian safety.

Due to the depth and complexity of the issues, the council is pursuing a phased approach with the first phase concerned with data and evidence collection.

The consultants will subsequently produce a report based on the date and evidence, which will be presented to Wiltshire Council, the highways authority, to analyse.

Depending on Wiltshire Council’s response to the consultants' report from the first phase, it is anticipated subsequent phases in 2022 would enable the town to consider any option/s for addressing the issue that Wiltshire Council is able to propose.
