A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and one person taken to hospital after a crash near Brinkworth last night.

Firefighters were called to the B4042 near the junction with the B4696 last night (Sunday) at around 7pm after a two-vehicle crash.

Crews from Royal Wootton Bassett and Malmesbury rushed to the scene and used hydraulic cutting equipment to release those trapped in the vehicle.

Now, Wiltshire Police have confirmed that a 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in custody.

Having urged the public to avoid the area at around 8pm on January 23, the road remained closed until 10.30pm.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Great Western Hospital with injuries not described as life threatening.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded to a road traffic collision involving a number of vehicles on the B4042 near the junction of the B4696 (to the north of the M4 near Royal Wootton Bassett) at about 7pm yesterday (24/01).

“The driver of one of the vehicles involved was taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon to be treated for injuries which are not described as life threatening.

“The road was closed until about 10.30pm last night.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.”
