DOUBLE yellow lines will be scrubbed from a Swindon street after a furious backlash from people living there.
Last week, residents of Osborne Street in Gorse Hill said their struggle to find parking spots had been made worse by Swindon Borough Council's decision to paint the lines onto a solid single-lined section.
They had previously been able to park there in the evenings.
Councillors Jim Grant and Will Stone said a 'large volume of complaints' led to the council agreeing to revert back to the old layout.
The move sparked a debate on social media, with motorists who park in the street saying they were not consulted about the change. One even said the first they knew about the work being done was when they had a knock at the door because their car was in the way.
Some said previous attempts to have residents' parking zones there had been shot down.
Ward councillor and Jim Grant responded: "Neither residents nor councillors were consulted on the matter.
"Parking in Osborne Street is difficult enough as it is without this."
Labour colleague Coun Stone confirmed the double yellow lines would be removed, saying: "Swindon Borough Council have agreed that the lines have been installed in an inappropriate position and will be changed back to how they were beforehand."
