THE council has responded to concerns about the disruption caused by months of work on Oxford Road.

Neighbours have complained about the regular traffic jams and completion delays which have caused headaches for people in the area since last April, but an end is now in sight.

The latest phase of the highway improvement work is set to end on May 6 at 5pm.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We understand why local residents are fed up with the ongoing roadworks along Oxford Road and at the major junctions nearby. None of these projects have been easy and they continue to present their own challenges.

"The good news is that we are now approaching the final stages of these schemes and some of the recent congestion in the area has been caused by the need to close sections of the road network while we carry out the final surfacing and other works.

“We have tried our best to keep local people informed about the progress on all these major roads improvements through our dedicated New Eastern Villages newsletter and continue to provide regular updates on our social media channels.

"The contractors send out stakeholder letters in advance of any lane or road closures and will continue to do so.”
