A Moredon burglar appeared "emotionless and evil" when he launched a "vicious attack" on his on-off partner and punched her twenty times in the face, jaw and chest, a court has heard.

Orion Mundy, 21, has been jailed after he "lost it" when he went round to his victim's flat and found another man there in the early hours of New Year's Day.

He was convicted at trial of assault occasioning actual bodily harm as well as criminal damage after he smashed his partner's TV and kicked her door in.

He also pleaded guilty to a burglary charge where expensive watches, jewellery, cash and an Audi car worth over £7,500 were stolen from an address on February 10 this year.

Officers found a blow torch, a crowbar and a keyring for the stolen car at Mundy's address after the burglary.

The blow torch had been used to remove a panel from the door to enter the property.

Swindon Crown Court heard how on New Year's Day his partner had deleted him off social media because she'd seen him with other women.

Mundy arrived at her flat in the early hours "in an agitated state" and was described as being "off his head" as he shouted at the other man there.

He then attacked his partner who begged him to stop in what was described as a "distressing and frightening incident".

He kicked her thigh and strangled her before producing either a screwdriver or a knife to smash the TV.

In defence, Mr Clough said: "All I can say, so far as the assault is concerned, drink was involved on all sides and it is a matter of extreme regret to Mr Mundy he’s behaved this way."

He also claimed the defendant was in a "toxic relationship" and was willing to undertake courses about relationships.

For the burglary, Mr Clough added: "He's young. The reason for the domestic burglary was he is moving back to the registered use of cocaine and finds himself indebted to less than pleasant people who have made threats of physical violence."

He argued that the burglary was committed under "some coercion short of duress" because of his drug debts.

Mundy had two other previous convictions for burglary which makes him a third striker.

He committed the burglary while on bail after the New Year's Day ABH and criminal damage offences.

Summing up, Judge Jason Taylor QC said: "In interview, you lied and said you had nothing to do with the burglary.

"This is not the first time you've been in trouble. You are a third striker and that means I must impose a sentence of three years.

"The fact you are still relatively young or that you have a drug debt meaning you were placed under some degree of pressure does not come anywhere near to making it unjust."

Mundy, who appeared via video link from HMP Bullingdon, was jailed for 876 days for the burglary and nine months for the ABH. The criminal damage charges were each one month concurrent.

In real terms, this means Mundy was sentenced to just under three years and two months.
