Following the cancellation of this year's Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, a small Pride picnic event will take place this summer instead.

Taking place in Queens Park, Swindon at midday on Saturday, August 13, the event is aimed at bringing the LGBTQIA+ community and allies together and promoting equality and diversity.

Those coming are encouraged to bring a picnic, blanket, chairs and, of course, a pride flag. There will also be music, a Pride stall and a giant Pride deck chair.

A spokesperson from Swindon and Wiltshire Pride said: "We were sad to have cancelled Pride this year due to a lack of people coming forward to fill vital committee roles.

"As a committee, we thought that while we can't hold a big scale event like our usual pride event, we can hold something smaller that still brings people together and gives the community a place to make connections, raise awareness and a place to feel comfortable."

They added: "We would also like to thank South Swindon Parish Council for their support with hosting the event at Queen's Park."

This year's Swindon and Wiltshire Pride event was cancelled earlier this year due to them being unable to fill the committee position.
