BROADBAND installation will close part of a road leading from the town centre to Rodbourne for two weeks.

Drivers are advised to avoid using Rodbourne Road between the junction with Penzance Drive and the turn-off to Church Place on Park Lane from Monday while CityFibre lays fibre ducting for the area.

The footpath to the Designer Outlet along this stretch of the street under the railway bridge will remain open for pedestrians at all times.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: "Local bus companies have been informed and a signed diversion route will be in place.

"During the road closure, we are also taking the opportunity to allow the Pattern Church to erect scaffolding to enable it to carry out restoration work on the part of the building which faces onto Rodbourne Road."

CityFibre is working on a £40 million project to upgrade Swindon's internet infrastructure by replacing the old copper-based network with a high-speed full fibre one.

Stratton, Pinehurst and Moredon are among the first to receive the new broadband connection.

Where CityFibre builds its full fibre networks, internet service providers light them up to deliver some of the fastest and best value broadband packages available.
