Netting placed to stop pigeons nesting on a town centre building's roof has come loose, trapping a sparrowhawk and killing it.

A pair of sparrowhawks have been nesting on Falcon House this Spring but locals say the survivor has since abandoned the nest following the death of its partner.

The netting on the green tower behind 19B Regent Street, in the Regent Street car park off of Edgeware Road  had been torn in the wind leading to it ensnaring the hapless bird.

It is not known when exactly the bird first became caught in the netting, but it was still dangling as of May 13.

Swindon Advertiser:

Sparrowhawks are legally protected in the UK.

The penalty for intentionally killing or harming one is an unlimited fine and/or up to six months imprisonment.
