People have reacted with horror after a Swindon woman discovered the tragic sight of a dead hedgehog, with a tight plastic ring around its waist.

Helen Spring, 53, from Stratton discovered the animal on the Super Marine roundabout between Stanton Park and South Marston Park

She posted pictures of it on social media to urge people to take more caution when throwing away rubbish because of the terrible consequences.

"This poor hedgehog must have suffered from this tight plastic ring around him, before you dispose of plastic rings or string please CUT it and help the wildlife," she wrote.

Others were quick to show their support and echo Helen's pleas with potentially harmful objects like hairbands, and the elastic on Covid masks also being pointed out

She told the Adver: "It's a busy road but there are lots of wildlife there and I feed foxes every day."

"That's why it's important to cut hoops on things like ring pulls and not to throw them out of car windows.

"Stratton St Margaret Parish Council do litter pick in the area but unfortunately it’s never enough, I went out litter picking in that area in lockdown and it was disgusting what people throw out of car windows."

This poor hedgehog must have suffered from this tight plastic ring around him, before you dispose of plastic rings or string please CUT it and help the wildlife — feeling sad.
