A NEW plaque honours the winners of this year's Pride of Swindon winners.

Mayor Garry Perkins and event host Shirley Ludford unveiled the latest addition to the collection on display in the Central Library.

Individual and team names from the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies have been enshrined in history for posterity.

Some of the winners watched the unveiling and proudly took pictures next to the plaques.

Mayor Perkins said: "There are around 500 names on this wall, which is amazing for a town of Swindon’s size to have been awarded these honours over the last few years.

“I recognise so many who are still stalwarts of the community.”

Stephen Trowbridge said: “We were blown away by the nominations, so inspiring. Swindon is extremely lucky to have people like them doing what they do, they should be really proud.”

Julie is one of the volunteers and broadcasters at Swindon 105.5, which won a team award.

She said: “Looking back at previous winners, I see a teaching assistant I nominated, when I was a headteacher, who did fantastic work with a child who had Down’s Syndrome.

“It’s great to see that continuity over the years. Swindon is the best town for community – these plaques prove that.”
