Roadworks causing misery for motorists in Covingham and Dorcan are now close to completion.

The works at Piccadilly Roundabout have been dragging on for nearly a year - with the scheme originally due to finish in the summer of 2021.

In a letter, R&W Civil Engineering Ltd has told Swindon Borough Council the roundabout will need to be closed overnight on May 31 for resurfacing works.

It says this is because Covingham Drive needs to be resurfaced.

The work will take place from 8pm to 6am with a diversion in place along Oxford Road.

The letter to councillors reads: “We are writing to advise you of upcoming roadworks on Piccadilly Roundabout in conjunction with the Nythe scheme.

“As we near the end of the scheme we will be carrying out night-time carriageway resurfacing on Covingham Drive.

“To undertake these activities safely and efficiently, works will need to commence on Covingham Drive on the May 31 2022 for one night.

“The work will be carried out during the hours between 8pm and 6am.

“A full night closure and a clearly signed diversion route will be installed via Oxford Road.

“R&W apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused and we assure you of our very best endeavours at all times in this project."
